Originally our second entry to the Eurographics 2006 Graphics meets Games competition, because
pingK was originally rejected (but then re-accepted and subsequently won the competition alltogether),
What the Duck?! is an experimental game in the spirit of Loco Roco and Katamari Damacy.
The goal of the game is to guide some ducks to the final destination on a map, indicated by golden water lilies. The idea behind the gameplay though has a little twist: instead of controlling the ducks themselves, you can only manipulate the environment (i.e. the water) - like dragging the water plane up and down to create radial waves, or to "push" over the water surface to create directional waves in order to "float" the ducks to their final goal.
Red water lilies let the ducks grow, while blue water lilies makes them shrink. After a certain size, a duck will explode into 3 small ones, which all have to be guided to the goal.
This game was created in just 7 days from the grounds up (with a 2 days break in between for visiting the Leipzig Games Convention), so it is the fastest game we have ever created. It also enjoys special popularity at various workshops and presentations where it is shown, especially to the female audiences.
We intend to finish this game one day, polishing it to make it a complete and fun experience. The current version feels very experimental still.
